Lelystad/Amsterdam, February 16th - Maxem and NRG2fly have announced a strategic collaboration to support the electrification of airports. Airports are increasingly electrifying ground support equipment (GSE), vehicles, buildings, and energy systems. Preparing for electric aircraft is a natural next step to ensure airports remain future-ready as aviation continues to electrify. This growing electricity demand requires a smart, integrated approach.
NRG2fly brings hands-on experience with charging infrastructure at airports, while Maxem provides intelligent energy management to optimize grid capacity, manage peak loads, and integrate local renewable energy. Together, the partners help airports transition into future-proof, fully electrified energy hubs, reducing dependency on costly grid upgrades today and creating a scalable foundation for electric flight tomorrow.
Merlijn van Vliet, of NRG2fly, said: “Electrifying an airport goes far beyond aircraft alone. By combining smart energy management with airport-wide charging infrastructure, we enable airports to electrify step by step and be ready for electric aviation when it scales.”
Building Europe’s Airport Charging Network
NRG2fly is building a comprehensive European charging network for electric aircraft and electric ground support equipment (GSE). Through this partnership, Maxem strengthens this network by enabling smart energy management at airport level, allowing charging infrastructure to scale within existing grid constraints.
“Airports are facing a fundamental shift in energy demand,” said Robert Hooyer, CCO of Maxem. “By combining intelligent energy management with NRG2fly’s charging expertise, we help airports electrify ground operations today and be ready for electric aviation tomorrow, without running into grid limitations.”
